I used to write and edit for our student publication in college and that's what got me into blogging (although some say blogging is not journalism). I don't write to impress, I just do it. Using highfalutin words is not my style, but using parentheses is (really).

This blog is about my opinion, experiences, personal life, and others' as well. I update based on my metabolism. No pressure. Please visit this blog regularly (if you are willing) and tell me if you want to exchange links. ;-)

I'm moving to blogspot
The reason I’ve neglected this blog is because I’m planning to create a new one under BLOGSPOT.COM. Blogdrive is cool and I’ll actually be with this blog for FIVE YEARS come October, but lately I find managing this site difficult (I can’t even align the paragraphs the way I want to). And the features are limited unless you’re a paying subscriber. My only problem is that the blog URL I want to use was already taken by someone else. And I just found out who that someone else is!

When I checked if the url www.karlow.blogspot.com (I couldn’t be more original) is available, I was dismayed that is wasn’t. But if you take a look at it, it only has the name ‘Karlow’ and nothing more. So I had this strange feeling that I might have created that blog myself and forgot about it. And I was right! It turned out that I created that blog four years ago for no apparent reason. Yippee!

My next problem is accessing it. I still remember my Gmail username which I haven’t used for eons because I’m a Yahoo! person (in fact I don’t Google myself, I Yahoo! myself) but I don’t know my password anymore. And the security question is about my first mobile phone number which I had when I was in 4th year high school (I just changed my number twice). Trying to remember it was painful so I just gave up. “Goodbye karlow.blogspot.com,” I said to myself. But surprise, surprise! While munching on my mom’s beefsteak this noon, numbers were jumbling on my mind (I have a weird one) and it formed my first mobile phone number! Actually, my brother’s first phone number was formed. We only had two different digits though so I remembered mine later.

So that’s it. I now own karlow.blogspot.com again plus I have 1,898 unread messages and 132 SPAMs on my Gmail. I Better start reading…

P.S.

I’ll be on blogspot this October.

I'm Now an eBayer
People have their first love, first kiss, first sex, etc., and I have my first eBay purchase! He he! I have my apprehensions on buying stuffs online because I might be duped, especially that I’m a gullible consumer. But I realized eBay is safe. You’ll be asked tons of personal info (address, etc.) during registration so they can pin you down when you do something bad. But if you’re a fraud and your intention is to rob people of their money, you can always lie through it if you want. :p

Another thing that I like with eBay is their “feedback system.” If you had a good transaction with and eBayer, give him a positive feedback, if not then give him a negative feedback and a nasty comment. All feedbacks can be viewed by a potential seller/buyer and this will show how reliable an eBayer is. I purchased from someone with 100% positive feedback so I am assured that the money I deposited to her bank account will not go to waste.

After two days my merchandise was delivered to our doorstep, just as described. What is it? It’s part of the secret something that’s been keeping me busy. He he! :p

Back to Blogging
I normally say that being busy is the reason why I neglect this blog, but this time, it’s the opposite. I’ve been unemployed (by choice, just like being single) for the past two months. No work, no stories to tell. And when I found out that the TV show that I’ve been raving about (see previous entry) was canceled after nine episodes due to the Writers Guild of America strike, I lost my will to blog. Just Kidding.

Well some things are still keeping me busy -- my sideline as a private tutor which is my only source of income right now, I’m on my last semester before I defend my thesis for my master’s degree, and I’m doing this something which I can’t tell you because it’s a secret -- but they’re all ho-hum.

I hope I’ll be back to blogging for good.

Recommended TV Show: Pushing Daisies

While everyone’s going gaga over Gossip Girl, I am addicted to Pushing Daisies (Tuesdays, 8pm, ETC 2nd Avenue, RJTV 29, Philippine Free TV). It’s about a man named Ned who at a young age discovered that he has the power to bring the dead back to life. But there’s a catch – he has to touch the undead person before a minute could pass for that person to be “redead,” or someone else will die. Confusing? Here’s a better illustration:

dead person + Ned’s touch = dead person becomes undead (Zombie)
Zombie + Ned’s touch = Zombie dies again
Zombie - Ned’s touch within a minute = Zombie lives but another person dies

His power is not limited to humans. He can also bring “dead” fruits to life which he uses for the pies he bakes at “The Pie Hole.” In exchange of these fruits, the daisies in his kitchen wither. Thus, the title Pushing Daisies (I suppose).

When a police detective discovered his power, he asked Ned to solve murders by bringing the victims back to life and ask them for information that would help in the investigation. Then they would each have a share of the reward money. The first case they worked on was a girl murdered on a ship, which happened to be Ned’s first kiss and first love, Chuck. Ned brought Chuck to life but refused to touch her again, so the funeral home owner died while she lives. This is the start of a strange and funny story of two persons in love who cannot kiss or even hold each other’s hands (can’t believe I’m typing this) because it will cost the other person’s life. They can, however, touch each other’s body indirectly (with gloves, or when they kissed with clear plastic between their lips.)

Aside from the comedic aspects, what I like about the show is the part when they try to figure out who killed who. It’s like live action Detective Conan!

++++++++++

Spoiler (for those who haven’t seen an episode): When he was young, Ned accidentally killed his mother when he brought a dead fly (bangaw) back to life and wasn’t able to touch it again. She was revived when he touched her which caused the death of Chuck’s father who lives across the street. Her mother died again when she kissed him goodnight. I don’t know yet what will happen when Chuck finds out why her father died. And don't tell me, please.

Bohol (Mis)Adventure
We had a blast at Bohol the other weekend. We probably had what other vacationers (with a big budget) experienced – toured the countryside, took a glimpse of the Chocolate Hills, had pictures taken with tarsiers, dined in a boat while cruising the Loboc River, swam the white beaches of Panglao, went island hopping, snorkeled, and got my digital camera and N70 wet and destroyed by sea water! *sigh*

We were snorkeling and I left my small bag containing my wallet, camera and phone on the boat we rented. A few minutes later, I checked the boat and saw that sea water made its way through our boat wetting my things. I had to cut my fish and coral reef watching to head to the shores. I was able to salvage my cam’s memory card and phone’s sim card but the units are no longer serviceable according to technicians when I had them checked when I got back here. The salt water has rusted and corroded whatever’s inside of them.

“They are just material things anyway.” That’s what I would be saying if I am a hypocrite. He he! Of course I’m sad and disappointed because I’ve worked hard to save money for those things! But I’ve accepted it as my fault. I knew it would happen but I thought I had the power to prevent bad things from happening. I totally deserve what happened. At least now I have two cool paperweights. :p
